Meet Kellen
In 2008, Kellen is beginning his 4th season running a Dirt Late Model and his 8th season running a Dirt Modified. Started racing motorcycles in 1991, Kellen has found racing success from the beginning, winning the motorcycle Summer and Fall Series championship as a six year-old. He continued that success in 1992, winning championships in both motorcycles and the four-wheeled box stocks. He continued to pursue various racing activities and won his first ever event in a Mini-Sprint event entered in 1999. In 2001, the sixteen year-old could finally transition to the powerful Dirt Modifieds. He made his first feature event in his fourth ever event in the full-sized cars and proceeded to win the main event at Antioch Speedway. He was named Rookie of the Year at Antioch in 2001. He quickly became a force in the Dirt Modified scene.
In 2001, Kellen took his talents to some of the bigger Modified shows on the West Coast. He would go on to win the Northwest Modified Nationals in Elma, WA. He returned in 2002 and repeated as winner of the prestigious race. In 2003, Kellen became the first driver ever to win every heat race at the IMCA Super Nationals in Boone, IA.
2005 saw Kellen move into the Super Late Models. He won his first ever event entered in a Late Model at Petaluma Speedway. He won the first ever Western All Stars Late Model event at Bakersfield Speedway in 2005, besting a field of West Coast Late Model superstars. He ended the 2005 season by winning four of the five big money Dirt Modified races (Bakersfield, Reno-Fernley, Antioch and Chowchilla Speedways).
Prior to the 2006 season, Kellen faced one of his biggest life's choices. Having saved some money from his success, he was looking to buy his first home. He was given the choice to buy that house our buy a racecar hauler, fully equipped with sleeping headquarters and room for two race cars. For Kellen, the choice was easy. He wanted to race. He bought the race car hauler, which would then enable him to travel places far from home, with the necessary equipment to compete. In 2006, Kellen concentrated some of his racing to his local track, Antioch Speedway, while he gathered the needed equipment to take his racing around the country. He was the runaway Dirt Modified champion at Antioch.
In 2007, Kellen hit the road and took his talents across the country, where he could stack them up against the best drivers in the country. Kellen made the feature event at The Colossal 100 at Lowe's Dirt Track on his first ever visit to the track in a Late Model. He also made the feature event at the Show-Me 100, another prestigious Late Model event. He ended 2007 with a total of seven Dirt Late Model wins and numerous Dirt Modified wins. Kellen was invited to take some hot laps in a NASCAR Craftsman Truck back in North Carolina.
In 2008, Kellen is looking to follow the Lucas Oil Late Model Series. He will combine efforts with nationwide racing with some on the West Coast, while battling against the best Late Model drivers in the country. He will mix in some Dirt Modified shows when he has time.
Having raced at so many tracks around the country through his early career, Kellen has developed the utmost respect from fellow racers. His friendly personality has quickly gained a large fan base, from competitors and fans alike.
Kellen has long had the drive to succeed in racing. His goal in life is to make racing a career. He has devoted himself to learning how the cars are built and understanding how best to drive them. He spent time learning how the chassis are built and tuned. He learned how different shocks make a racecar go fast. At such a young age, Kellen was often the source of advice on how best to setup a racecar for racers in any division.
Off the track, Kellen was thrilled to spend time with his son, Jayce, who was born in February 2007. When not racing or hanging out with Jayce, Kellen can be found building and selling race cars for Pro Motorsports of California. During football season, you will find Kellen on the couch cheering for the Dallas Cowboys.
